PROFA™ Pitch Reducing Optical Fiber Array
The Pitch Reducing Optical Fiber Array (PROFA) is a high density, multi-channel optical input/output (I/O) for fiber-to-chip and fiber-to-optical waveguide applications, featuring:

An exemplary 1550 nm, singlemode, 61-channel PROFA, shown above, retains the pigtail fibers’ NA at the coupling endface while greatly reducing the channel pitch, or spacing, at the tapered end. Typical PROFA specifications are:
| 61-channel PROFA | 7-channel PROFA | |
| Average positional error of each channel (from perfect hexagonal pattern) | < 1 μm | < 0.3 μm |
| Average insertion loss through each channel | < 0.3 dB | < 0.3 dB |
| Channel crosstalk | < -40 dB | < -40 dB |
These NA maintaining PROFAs build on Chiral Photonics’ Spot-Size Converters (SSCs) but enable high density, arrayed couplers with relaxed alignment tolerances because of the larger mode field sizes accommodated. Angle-polished endfaces as well as low profile form factors can be accommodated.
